The Maison Molinard was founded in 1849 in Grasse (Provence), the perfume capital of the world, in the south of France. At first it produced floral waters and eau de cologne, which it sold in its small store. 1921 was a milestone for Molinard, who launched the still popular Habanita. Initially, it was a scent to attenuate the strong smell of cigarettes, hence its slogan, the most tenacious perfume in the world. The garçonnes of the Roaring Twenties liked it so much that it became a perfume in 1924, the first feminine oriental with vetiver in French perfumery.
The hallmark of Habanita's black bottle is the famous frieze signed by René Lalique (1860-1945), a renowned jeweler of the art nouveau movement and one of the great masters of glassmaking art worldwide.
